    In vivo performance of antibiotic embedded electrospun PCL membranes for prevention of abdominal adhesions

    The aim of this study was to prepare nonwoven materials from poly(-caprolactone) (PCL) and their antibiotic containing forms by electrospinning, so as to prevent postsurgery induced abdominal adhesions in rats. -Caprolactone was first polymerized by ring-opening polymerization, and then it was processed into matrices composed of nanofibers by electrospinning. A model antibiotic (Biteral®) was embedded within a group of PCL membranes. In the rat model, defects on the abdominal walls in the peritoneum were made to induce adhesion. The plain or antibiotic embedded PCL membranes were implanted on the right side of the abdominal wall. No membrane implantation was made on the left side of the abdominal wall that served as control. Macroscopical and histological evaluations showed that using these barriers reduces the extent, type, and tenacity of adhesion. The antibiotic embedded membranes significantly eliminated postsurgery abdominal adhesions, and also improved healing

One of the major benefits of offering database as a service is to provide organisations, which are unable to purchase expensive hardware and software to host their databases, with efficient data storage accessible online at a cheap rate. Despite that, several issues of data confidentiality, integrity, availability and efficient indexing of users’ queries at the server side have to be addressed in the data outsourcing paradigm. Service providers have to guarantee that their clients’ data are secured against internal (insider) and external attacks. This paper briefly analyses the existing indexing schemes in data outsourcing and highlights their advantages and disadvantages. Then, this paper proposes a secure data outsourcing scheme based on Asmuth–Bloom secret sharing which tries to address the issues in data outsourcing such as data confidentiality, availability and order preservation for efficient indexing

    The article examines the phase of aggressive behavior, deprivation, among the inmate's age group of Nigerian prison. However, the study elaborated the meaning of aggressive behavior; factors contributed to aggressive behavior, theory of aggressive behavior, literature review, method of information collection and data analysis. Therefore, prison setting can instigate aggressive behaviors, especially in Nigeria, where inmates are deprived of their particular right and are treated brutality in some instances studies shows, that Nigerian prisons are not adequately organized and made do as such, inmates are exposed to all kinds of atrocity. It should be noted that a condition of privation and lack of societal well-being especially among people being in an isolated environment as in the case with most prisons in Nigeria can degenerate to frustration and aggression which in turn can result in dangerous situations such as riots/ violence in the prisons. Aggression can lead to violence that may be adaptive under certain conditions regarding natural selection. That is most obviously the case regarding attacking prey to obtain food, or in anti-predator defense. The results showed that there is significant difference between the levels of aggressiveness with respect to the classes of age groups. Recommendation will be discussed further

    This research aims at finding out and analyzing the use of information technology (internet) to enrich the perception and knowledge to the society in Sigi Biromaru District and the positive and negative impacts of using the information technology (internet) to the society at Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency. 100 respondents were taken as the samples of this research. The data were collected through interview, observation, questioner and documentation. Moreover, they were analyzed descriptively with a quantitative approach, in which the results are described and in detail. T-test analysis was used to answer the first problem of this research and Chi-Square (χ2) analysis was used to answer the second problem of this research. The results show that: 1). Information technology (internet) gives a big influence toward to the development of the perception and knowledge to the society at Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency. 2) Information technology (internet) gives a positive and negative impacts to the society at Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency, nevertheless the positive impact are more dominant than the negative impact

    In vitro and in vivo degradation of non-woven materials made of poly(e-caprolactone) nanofibers prepared by electrospinning at different conditions

    The aim of this study was to prepare non-woven materials from a biodegradable polymer, poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) by electrospinning. PCL was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone in bulk using stannous octoate as the catalyst under nitrogen atmosphere. PCL was then processed into non-woven matrices composed of nanofibers by electrospinning of the polymer from its solution using a high voltage power supply. The effects of PCL concentration, composition of the solvent (a mixture of chloroform and DMF with different DMF content), applied voltage and tip–collector distance on fiber diameter and morphology were investigated. The diameter of fibers increased with the increase in the polymer concentration and decrease in the DMF content significantly. Applied voltage and tip–collector distance were found critical to control 'bead' formation. Elongation-at-break, ultimate strength and Young's modulus were obtained from the mechanical tests, which were all increased by increasing fiber diameter. The fiber diameter significantly influenced both in vitro degradation (performed in Ringer solution) and in vivo biodegradation (conducted in rats) rates. In vivo degradation was found to be faster than in vitro. Electrospun membranes were more hydrophobic than PCL solvent-casted ones; therefore, their degradation was a much slower process

    The Diagnostic Accuracy of Chest CT in the Detection of Tumor and Nodal Status in Non Small Cell Lung Carcinoma

    At this time there is an increasing demand for an accurate pre operative staging in non small cell lung cancer. Chest Computed Tomography (CT) is one of the imaging modality of choice used for this purpose. This study evaluated the accuracy of the chest CT to determine the status of the tumor and nodules in non small cell lung cancer. During the years 1998 and 1999, a descriptive prospective study of 32 patients undergoing a contrast enhanced chest CT examination for non small cell lung cancer, stage I-IIIA, was conducted. Lobectomy, lymph nodes dissection and postoperative histo-pathological examination were done. CT findings were as follows: a sensitivity of 100%, a specificity of 25% and an accuracy of 60% in the detection of the nodule stage were found. In 17 patients with adenocarcinoma, the sensitivity, the specificity and the accuracy were 86.6%, 100% and 88.2% respectively. The diagnosis of all patients was confirmed histo-pathologically. Six patients with T2 and 26 patients with T3 were detected by chest CT; the accuracy of the tumor status was 93.7%, confirmed by surgical and histo-pathological examinations. It was concluded that the CT played an important role in determining the clinical stage of non small cell lung cancer. The specificity and accuracy were higher in adeno-carcinoma as compared with squamous cell carcinoma in detecting the nodal status

    Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana tanggung jawab hukum dalam tindak pidana penyelundupan dan bagaimana peran kejaksaan sebagai penyidik tindak pidana khusus dalam menanggulangi kejahatan penyelundupan. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian yuridis normatif, maka dapat disimpulkan: 1. Pertanggungjawaban pidana atau kesalahan menurut hukum pidana adalah kemampuan bertanggung jawab atau dapat dipertanggung jawabkan dari si pembuat, adanya perbuatan melanggar hukum yaitu sikap psikis si pelaku yang berhubungan dengan kelakuannya, ayitu sengaja atau tanpa sengaja atau sikap kurang hati-hati, tidak ada alasan pembenar atau alasan yang menghapuskan pertanggungjawaban pidana si pembuat. 2. Peran Kejaksaan dalam upaya penanggulangan Tindak Pidana Penyelundupan dapat dilihat di dalam keputusan presiden (Kepres) No. 73 Tahun 1967 tentang pemberian kewenangan Jaksa Agung sebagai Ketua Tim dibantu dan bekerjasama dengan para menteri yang terkait, Panglima AD, Kepolisian, dan lain-lain. Sebagai tindak lanjut dari Kepres tersebut di atas maka Jaksa Agung lewat Kepres Nomor Kep-052/DA/6/1967 tanggal 13 Juni 1967 telah membentuk Tim Penyidik dan Penuntutan Perkara Penyelundupan (TP4), yang terdiri dari Pusat (TP4), Daerah Sub TP4, dan tugas utama melakukan koordinasi, pengendalian pengawasan, penahanan penuntutan demi perkara penyelundupan baik yang dilakukan oleh Sipil maupun anggota ABRI dan Kepolisian RI

    Air limbah rumah sakit merupakan limbah yang bersifat infeksius, yang harus diolah dengan baik. Rumah Sakit dr. Rubini merupakan rumah sakit satu-satunya yang ada di Kota Mempawah. Rumah sakit ini memiliki IPAL yang dibangun pada tahun 2006, namun kualitas hasil olahan masih berada diatas ambang baku mutu berdasarkan KepMen LH No. Kep-58/MENLH/12/1995 sehingga perlu dilakukan evaluasi pada IPAL tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui permasalahan yang ada di IPAL Rumah Sakit dr. Rubini Mempawah, mengevaluasi dimensi unit-unit pengolahan dan memberikan rekomendasi. Tahapan penelitian ini meliputi identifikasi masalah, pengumulan data, pengambilan sampel air limbah dengan metode grab sample, analisa data, evaluasi dan rencana perbaikan IPAL. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan metode perbandingan hasil perhitungan berdasarkan kriteria disain. Dari hasil evaluasi maka perlu dilakukan perancangan perbaikan untuk unit pengurai anaerob dan unit up flow filter karena berdasarkan hasil evaluasi dimensi kedua unit ini rasio dengan waktu detensi tidak memenuhi kriteria disain. Perancangan kembali unit pengurai anaerob dengan dimensi P = 3,5 m, L = 3,5 m, T = 3 m, dan unit up flow filter dengan dimensi P = 21,16 m, L = 4 m, T = 2 m. Dengan rancangan ini diharapkan hasil olahan memenuhi standar baku mutu yang telah ditetapkan

    Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengembangkan media dan perangkat pembelajaran Fisika berbasis laboratorium virtual. Prosedur pengembangannya mengikuti model four-D. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) media laboratorium virtual model presentasi dan tutorial pada materi radiasi benda hitam, efek fotolistrik, dan efek Compton diperoleh hasil valid dan reliabel; (2) perangkat pembelajaran berupa Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP), Buku Bacaan Peserta Didik (BBPD), dan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD), selain dibuat dalam bentuk hardcopy, juga softcopy autorun CD yang dilengkapi link ke beberapa website; (3) aktivitas peserta didik di atas 80%, menunjukkan pembelajaran yang dilakukan mampu mengaktifkan peserta didik. A research has been conducted to develop media and physicslearning device based on virtual laboratory.
